Liturgical Growth Ministry (Liturgy Committee): Meeting monthly, this group of men and women come together to share ideas and develop plans to enhance our liturgies through good use of music, art, space, etc.
Eucharistic Minister: Women and men serve their fellow parishioners in a very profound way by aiding the priest in the distribution of Eucharist at all liturgies. Many of these ministers also carry Eucharist to the homebound, fulfilling a special need.
Ministry of the Word: The ministry takes two forms and requires an ability to read aloud with clarity and understanding.
Proclaimers - These adults and teens share their gifts by proclaiming the Word of God at all liturgies.
Commentators - These teens and adults greet the congregation before Mass begins, lead the Prayer of the Faithful, and lead the Responsorial Psalm when it is not sung.
Altar Servers: Girls and boys (grade 3 and up) serve at the altar assisting the priest at weekend and holy day liturgies.
Gift Bearers: The presentation of the gifts, bread and wine, to the priest is made by members of the assembly. This is a ministry in which any member of the assembly may participate.
Ministry of Hospitality: The ministry takes two forms and requires a friendly and open spirit, and is willing to be helpful and to be available to people’s needs in Church.
Ushers: The group helps members of the assembly in finding seats and performs the function of collecting the financial gifts of the congregation during the weekend liturgies.
Greeters: These people share the special gift of a warm greeting and a welcoming smile to all those attending weekend liturgies.
Ministry of Music:
Choirs - St. Mary's encourages people of all ages to actively participate in the Mass by singing in the congregation and joining one of our choirs. You do not need a trained voice to enjoy the companionship and ministry of song.
Children's Choir: Any child in second grade through Jr. High is encouraged to join us in the Church for rehearsal every other Monday throughout the school year. The Children's Choir leads the congregation in song one Sunday a month and at other special occasions.
Adult Choir: Any student in high school and all adults are invited to enhance the liturgies at St. Mary's by joining our enthusiastic ensemble. We typically sing three and four-part harmonies to the Mass parts and many hymns. You do not need to have any prior experience, just a desire to praise God through our rich musical heritage. (A sense of humor helps with this group, too!) Rehearsals are every Thursday evening (Sept. through June) in the Parish Center Chapel. We sing one Sunday a month as well as at special liturgies including Christmas and Easter.
Contemporary Music Group - Each Saturday evening Mass from September through June, Parishioners enhance the celebration of the Mass by singing the praises of God with vocals, guitars and other instruments. The music ranges from folk to contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at the home of one of the musical leaders. All are welcome to join this spirit-filled group. Again, no formal training or prior experience is necessary.
Cantor - Any mature individual (Jr. High and older) can be trained to lead the congregation in song during the Sunday liturgies. The cantors' ministry is to encourage congregational singing of the hymns and Mass parts by using their God-given talents. Confidence and poise are attained through rehearsing once a month as a group and individual sessions with the organist, as needed.
Instrumental - At special liturgies throughout the year, instrumentalists are used to enhance our Eucharist celebrations. Instruments are a beautiful addition to all liturgies, especially those involving the contemporary group or one of the choirs.
Ministry of Environment:
St. Martha's Helpers - Volunteers who are willing and able to clean areas of the altar, sanctuary, and sacristy on a weekly basis and also during Holy Week and the Christmas holidays. Depending on the number of volunteers, they serve approximately four times a year for 1 to 1 ½ hours, in groups of two. They also help to launder linens used for Mass. There are no monthly meetings.
Church Decorations - This team of volunteers gathers on an as-needed basis to put together an array of artwork, flowers, banners, etc. to decorate the "theme center" of the church, in front of the altar. Holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, as well as special events are occasions when volunteers are needed. The goal of this ministry is to enhance special Masses and activities through the coordination of decorations, music, etc. Watch our bulletin for information and sign-ups as events come along and volunteers are needed.
Weekly Children's Liturgy of the Word - At the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Masses, children are dismissed after the Entrance Procession with a blessing and procession to the downstairs of Church where they celebrate the Liturgy of the Word for children. This is not a catechetical session or recreation; it is a liturgical experience. Before the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins, the children are led back to the assembly. |
